Project Description

A collaboration between the Composition Program and Recording Area, this project was the School of Music's first foray into the arena of live audio streaming technology. The primary goal of this project was to equip the School of MusicÕs recording control center Studio C with the hardware and software required to produce live CD-quality Webcasts (audio-only) of our USC Student Composers Concerts. These QuickTime-based Webcasts were designed to help our student composers gain a wider audience for their music, and to provide our composition faculty, student composers and student performers with continued access to these important instructional resources. Two concerts were broadcast live over the Internet during the course of this pilot study: one on November 23, 2002, and the other on April 12, 2003. The project Web site (webcast.music.sc.edu) provides access to technical information about the project, a streaming media archive with complete program information for both concerts, and special features such as audio interviews with selected student composers and resources for student composition portfolio development.
